World's largest 2nd-generation biofuel plant opens in the Netherlands

The world's largest 2nd-generation biofuel plant was officially opened recently in the Netherlands. BioMCN'sbiofuel plant has a production capacity of 250 million litres per year, which is enough to immediately fulfil the entire Dutch biofuel obligation; a minimum of 4% blended with gasoline. The fuel, bio-methanol, is produced via an innovative process, patented by BioMCN, and is made from crude glycerine; a sustainable biomass which is a residue from industrially processed vegetable oils and animal fats. The product is a sustainable alternative to fossil fuels. In addition to the sustainable character of bio-methanol itself, the concept of sustainability plays an important role in the philosophy behind the design and construction of the production plant. Rather than construct an entirely new plant, BioMCN acquired an existing methanol installation at the chemical industrial site in Delfzijl. The result is BioMCN: a scalable plant with an equally sustainable and innovative product.
