Traditionally open economy

Since the 17th century, the Netherlands has had an open economy, and trade with other countries is still of great significance. In 2008, the value of exports compared to GDP was 84.3%. According to research carried out by the Netherlands Bureau for Economic Policy Analysis, the country earns no less than 30% of its income from the export of goods and services.
