Sixth largest EU economy
In terms of surface area and population size, it will come as no surprise that the Netherlands is not a particularly large country, occupying 133rd and 61st positions, respectively. In contrast, the country’s economic performance ranks much higher. The size of the economy, or the Gross Domestic Product, was more than 680 billion US dollars in 2008. The Netherlands has the sixth-largest economy in the European Union.
