Trade and industry are the drivers of economic growth and can be the most powerful instruments in the fight against poverty in developing countries. A vibrant private sector in developing countries promotes growth and expands opportunities for the poor.

Trade, investment and cooperation with foreign partners greatly enhance economic development. Dutch Official Development Assistance (ODA) has exceeded the UN target of 0.7% of Gross National Income for many years. In its 'Commitment-to-Development Index', the Center for Global Development ranks the Netherlands first for its generous id-giving, declining greenhouse gas emissions, and support for investment in developing countries.

The private sector in the Netherlands makes its own contribution to international development through trade as well as sound investment policies. Together with international organizations, Dutch experts have been closely involved in numerous projects in developing countries, from water management, environment and infrastructure, to sustainable healthcare, ducation and financial sector management.
